A Girlfriend!

chibiguri has a girlfriend. yesterday, his girlfriend, who is just two, came over to our house to play with chibiguri (who is two and four months). They had lots of fun, which mostly involved chibiguri chasing little kurichan all over the house. I asked amaguri if kurichan enjoyed being chased, to which she responded 'yes!'. So I gather that they enjoy chasing and being chased respectively. This might make things interesting as they both grow older.

However, this was not the extent of their interaction. As they had lunch, they were sitting next to each other, and they shared a baby kiss. Amaguri got some wonderful photographs of this special moment, which i highly enjoyed viewing, as I was not able to witness the actual event, due to my work schedule.

We had previously been aware that they enjoy each other's company, since we attended kurichan's second birthday party a few weeks ago. We were the last ones to leave and both chibiguri and kurichan threw major tantrums at learning that chibiguri had to go home!

All I have to say is that as little kuriguri grows older, chibiguri may be in for a VERY interesting time. It will be interesting to see if they remain as close in future as they are now.

More on Sleeping...

...or lack thereof! chibiguri has unfortunately inherited his father's predilection for staying awake long past his preferable bedtime. This has caused his mother and me quite a bit of anguish, as it is becoming more and more frequent that he refuses to go to bed and actually sleep. Coupled with his preference for his parents' bed as opposed to his own, this means that we are often reduced to being his unwilling winesses as he climbs, rambles and otherwise engages in vigorous activity in, around and all over us.

Last night, Amaguri was taken ill- she had a fierce headache and her tummy was upset. Thus, she desired to go to bed to get some sleep. At first, chibiguri and I were relaxed whilst we watched an exciting game of basketball between the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs. However, chibiguri prefers to have an audience of two as opposed to an audience of one. Once he had consumed his usual allotment of pre-bedtime milk, he indicated that he wished to go to bed. I acquiesced, and we proceeded to the bedroom, where we climbed between the covers. However, after an initial period of quiet, chibiguri began to demonstrate his wakefulness in various ways- most of which were not helpful to his mother's need for peace and quiet.

Finally, we returned to the living room, where we watched the conclusion of the game and then changed over to Food Network. By this time, it was almost eleven o'clock PM. Only after half of the food program had elapsed did chibiguri finally go to sleep. I think we are going to have to work on a better way to ensure his complete exhaustion prior to putting him to bed- all other methods seem to fail miserably!

Unwrapping...

chibiguri has been unsure about the whole Christmas season, until he got to his aunt's for Christmas Eve. He has a number of presents, but he wasn't sure what he was supposed to do with them. So his unwrapping style was extremely circumspect- he would careful tug on the paper, with many covert looks at Mom and Dad to ensure that this was acceptable behavior. This caused the rest of the family to wait for long periods of time while chibiguri removed the wrapping from his presents.

however, the light bulb finally went on on Christmas Day. chibiguri is now not only a quick and brutal remover of wrappings, but he is quite willing to 'help' anyone else who happens to have packages covered in bright paper and bows. he is only too happy to wade in and rip the paper from said packages, with or without the owner's permission.

This is goo in that the delay is now minimized, but I suspect his parents' days of being able to sleep in on Christmas Day are now gone forever, as he understood that this particular day brings a plethora of new things for his enjoyment!

Counting

We have been working on chibiguri to help him count, reading to him and asking him 'How many...?" as a constant exercise. however, until recently we have not experienced much luck. However, as we were traveling to my sister's for Christmas, imagines our surprise when he suddenly began counting in the back seat! He got all the way up to fourteen, but ran out of numbers at that point. We have so far been unable to reproduce this, but it was a major milestone in chibiguri's development.
